This project involved the construction of a 12-screen (8,500m2) cinema catering for 2,209 persons, as part of the Dundrum Town Centre development. In general, the structure comprised metal decking flooring and structural steel frame with RC basement walls, up to 8m high and 1m thick. A 1500mm dia culvert overflow pipe was routed underneath the building’s foundations. Large transfer structures, incorporating 2-storey deep transfer trusses, were required at Level 1 to accommodate the cinema grid below.
Originally, the six-storey (24m) high twin lift core was to be constructed in RC. However, due to time constraints and architectural requirements, this was changed to Corus (now Tata Steel) Bi-Steel panels, resulting in the world's first modular composite lift core.
