Sligo General Hospital

T. J. O'Connor & Associates were Structural & Civil Engineers for the design and construction of the original €31.7M, 380 bed, 10 storey reinforced concrete Sligo General Hospital. Members of our staff have continuously worked on all major developments in Sligo General Hospital from 1964 including a 120-bed extension to the hospital, 50-bed Orthopaedic Unit, 140-bed Extension including operating theatres, physical medicine department, medical records deaprtment and catering unit. We were also responsible for the drafting of the Protective Development Control Plan.

T. J. O'Connor & Associates are currently a member of the Design Team for the proposed Acute Mental Health Care Unit (AMHU) and Employer's Representative for the Hospital RIng Road, which has recently achieved substantial completion.

The Ring Road works included significant earthworks, the provision of a new internal road with associates roundabout and junction works, footpaths, surface water drainage, attenuation and ducting, RC retaining walls, landscaping, public lighting and surface car parking, comprising 150 spaces.

The proposed AMHU inclvolves the provision of a 2,120m2 building with a basement level. The unit wil accommodate 25 single bed rooms and anciallary accommodation. The works, which will also include link corridors to adjacent hospital buildings, will involve significant earthworks, the provision of surface car parking and drainage and will take place within a confined site, on the operational hospital campus.
