The works at Naas General Hospital comprised a number of phases and included the provision of a new Mental Health Unit, new Ward Blocks, Operating Theatres, Radiology Department, CSSD buildings, a new Accident & Emergency Department, Catering department and ancillary facilities.
Phase 1: Psychiatric unit on two levels (2,500m2)
Phase 2 (19,000 m2) consisting of In-patient Ward Accommodation, Operating Department, ICU, Coronary Care Unit, A&E, OPD, Radiology, Day Hospital, Pathology, Main Concourse, Administration, Library and Pharmacy. The design of the single storey structure included provision for expansion to a two storey structure in Phase 3 of the development of the hospital.
Phase 3: Extended Out-patients and Pathology departments (6,100m2). Provision for expansion was designed into the structure during Phase 2 of the development and utilised during Phase 3 of the development of the hospital.
Recent works involved the construction of a single storey extension to the existing Naas General Hospital to house a Minor Injuries Unit. The extension is in the form of a structural steel frame connected to the RC frame of the existing hospital building. The works also include the provision of new underground services and connection to existing hospital services. The Minor Injuries Unit was completed in June 2011.
The MRI Unit was retro-fitted in 2012. These works involved the design appraisal of the existing floor structure to support the dead load of the new MRI unit, the RF cabin, whilst considering the vibration limits imposed by the supplier of the MRI scanner.
