Incorporated Orthopaedic Hospital Of Ireland, Clontarf – Phase 2 Development

This project consisted of a 96 bed extension to an existing hospital which remained fully operational throughout the works. The extension provided three new 32 bed wards and facilities for Physiotherapy, Radiology and Out Patient treatment along with new catering facilities. The project involved the demolition of a number of existing single storey buildings and the construction of 3,700m2 of single and two storey buildings, along with a new vehicular main entrance and parking for circa 122 vehicles. The extension was designed as two separate buildings with a link corridor and movement joint between them. This allowed the first building to be occupied while the existing buildings were demolished to make way for the remainder of the works. Structural works also included the modifications of the existing hospital structure to accommodate a new lift shaft adjacent to the new extension.

Civil works included the diversion of existing foul and surface water drains to facilitate the construction of the Phase 2 development. Works were carried out in a phased manner to ensure that all services remained live for the fully operational hospital. Civil works also included the installation of the new foul, storm water drainage, attenuation works, watermain and all associated roads and car parking areas.
