Stanhope Street Primary School, Dublin 7

This project, situated in a confined city centre site, involved the demolition of existing derelict school buildings and the provision of a new 3 storey, 23 classroom school building on their footprint.

The site, bounded on two sides by busy streets, is in the grounds of a functioning primary and secondary school. The primary school had operated from temporary accommodation and was relocated to the new building on completion. Phased construction was required to minimise disruption to existing school activities.

The first phase involved the demolition of the existing derelict buildings, renovation of certain retained buildings and further site investigation works including a second phase of geotechnical investigation and a post demolition topographical survey. This was completed in June 2010.

The second phase involved the construction of the new 3 storey school building which will consist of 23 classrooms and provides a gross internal floor area of 3,250m2. Associated site works include foul and surface water drainage, storm water attenuation, watermains and hard landscaping using permeable paving and the resurfacing of existing internal school roads and carparks.

A third phase involved the demolition and removal of temporary accommodation. The second and third phases formed a single contract and was programmed to minimise disruption to existing school activities.
