Monaghan Rural Water DBO

T. J. O’Connor & Associates were engaged by Monaghan County Council to act as Client’s Representative in connection with a pilot project to upgrade the quality of the water supplied to some 7,000 households in County Monaghan. As part of the project, 10 new water treatment plants were constructed and 3 further (existing) plants were upgraded at various locations around the county. The raw water is abstracted from lakes in all cases, bar one groundwater source. The new water treatment plants were procured under a single DBO contract. The quality of the raw water required full (conventional) treatment comprising coagulation using ferric salts, dissolved air floatation, rapid gravity filtration, pH correction and chlorination. The plants were designed to be operated and monitored remotely using GPRS technology to provide a telemetry system. Construction commenced in June 2002 and was substantially completed by December 2005.
