Sustainable Urban Drainage Schemes

T.J. O’Connor & Associates have extensive experience in the planning, design and construction of sustainable urban drainage systems for local authority, private residential and commercial schemes. Over 10 years ago the firm was responsible for the design, procurement and supervision of the Bishopswater Catchment Flood Attenuation Pond in Wexford. This regional detention basin facilitated the re-zoning and development of 100hA on the outskirts of Wexford Town. Careful selection of the site minimised the requirements for extensive earthworks.

T.J. O’Connor & Associates were responsible for the Waterville development at Snugborough Road, Blanchardstown which comprised a residential development of approximately 1,600 residential units on a 40hA site. This site included a 16hA local park including a 6,000m2 retention pond with wetland area. Considerations, such as dry weather recirculation and groundwater top up of the pond, were addressed from the outset to ensure that water quality was an essential design consideration as well as design flows
Other projects involving innovative SUDS Solutions include Hebron Road Housing Development in Kilkenny, Castleknock Golf Course, which includes an extensive surface runoff recovery system to minimise golf course irrigation costs, and Horizon Logistics Park where swales and filter drains were used extensively.

We are preparing a Preliminary Report for a Sustainable Urban Drainage Scheme for the Monard SDZ in Cork which will provide for a new community of 5000 houses and associated town and village services on a 400hA greenfield site close to Cork City
