Carrigtohill Flood Alleviation Scheme – Slatty Pond Pumping Station and Marine Outfall

T. J. O’Connor & Associates were employed by Cork County Council to design and tender works to alleviate future flooding in the town of Carrigtohill, Co. Cork. Preliminary works included completion of a model showing catchment run-off into Slatty Pond, a condition survey on the causeway and valves/culvert to establish necessary works and a geophysical survey of the causeway. T. J. O’Connor & Associates were also responsible for the design, tendering and completion of essential bridge repairs. Civil Engineering and M&E design were also completed for a surface water pumping station which discharges floodwater at 4,000 litres/s through twin 1200mm dia marine outfalls passing through the causeway. T. J. O’Connor & Associates completed the tendering for and supervised the construction and commissioning of this pumping station and twin culverts. The causeway had to remain open to traffic at all times as it is the main access road to Fota Island.

T. J. O’Connor & Associates also supplied all drawings, documents and other information to allow Cork County Council to successfully complete the Part 8 planning application in 2007.

Construction drawings, specifications and contract documents were completed to the new government forms of contract in late 2007 and the contract was awarded in July 2008. Construction and commissioning was completed in 2009.

2007 – April 2009
